IF You Want To Be Great, Money Should Not Be The Motivation

Around 96% of people today do everything they can to make money, and then even more money. What I have realized is that chasing after money will only get you so far. What good is it if the only thing you are known for is someone who possessed a great deal of money? You should know, money is only paper. Money in and of itself is not powerful. So just by having much of it definitely does not make you powerful at all either. I know you’ve heard the saying “The money doesn’t make the man, the man makes the money”. Does money control you? Is money all that you think about throughout the day? Are you always trying to see how you can make even more and think of everything else as unimportant? If money is what you think about the majority of the time, then everything else to you is least important. Don’t be alarmed, you are not the only one. This is very common, and has been around from the beginning. Although money is very important, and I would never say that possessing a lot of it is wrong in any way. However, when your main focus and motivation in life is to live working hard to achieve particular goals, just to make more money, then at that time is when you should reconsider your focus.

“Money was never a big motivation for me, except as a way to keep score. The real excitement is playing the game.”—Donald Trump.

This is a great way to look at it, whether you believe him or not, or like him, you still have to accept and realize that this is a great way to look at your business or whatever it is you do that involves money. Doing things just to make a bunch of money doesn’t really make you anything. Your just another person, no different from the average. However, someone who has a lot of money who earned it by doing what he or she loved for the purpose of helping others in some kind of way, is considered a success. Remember, success is not determined by how much money you make. Money is not the only thing in the world. What about people? If your aim and drive is to help someone else with your product or service in any way, then you are doing exactly what a business should be doing. It doesn’t matter what you do, whether its creating software, healing the sick, building houses, or selling lemonade at a lemonade stand, no matter how big or small it may be you are still providing increase in someones life. When you successfully provide an honest product or service of any kind and you are giving increase to life to whoever accepts it, then what you have is a successful business. A successful business or plan can only come from one type of person, a successful person. Everyone wants to be successful, and this is the way to do it. Putting others first, and providing increase in their life. If you do this intelligently, you certainly won’t have to chase money, it will chase you ;)

I know this is probably a wake up call for many, but the honest truth is that money, really isn’t the thing you really want. Let me explain. Wanting to make money does absolutely nothing for you in and of itself. Money, hopefully you know by now, doesn’t make you happy. Happiness is a decision you make, and not anything or anyone can do that for you, but you. So if money isn’t what you want then what is it? What you really want is the end result, and money is not at the end result, hopefully. Money as the end result is a waste if time. When your life here on this earth is over, what can you possibly be proud of if all you did was make money? Nothing, because there were so many people and other great opportunities that you could have embarked upon. Example, lets say my goal is to raise money to help families in need live in a home. The end result when I visualize is “Families living in a home”. That would be the destination. Unfortunately where we as people make the mistake is putting our focus in the wrong place, the money. Getting all caught up in how much money we want to make takes away the power of (in this case) placing those families in homes. Focusing on the money is like thinking about the ride itself rather than the actual destination. As we visualize we should always focus on the end result, and think from the end result as if it already happened. “Don’t think about “how” to get there, think about actually being there, now.” -Walt

Think about this. If you were the only person in the world, and you could have one thing in the world, what would that thing be? I doubt it would be money. You make think its a lot of money, but what you really need to think is what you would do with that money. That is probably what you want to do. If you were locked in a room filled with a bunch of bills, where is the fun at?

Keep in mind there is nothing wrong with having money, and no, it’s not evil. The only thing evil about “some” rich people, is not the money itself, but the person who possesses the money. However, I believe there are more “good” rich people who are wealthy than there are so called “evil people”. The belief that money makes you evil is a false belief which keeps so many people living in poverty. These people are some who may actually want more out of life but can’t move anywhere because they are always condemning someone who has money, and you will never receive anything that you condemn.

No person who is great chased after money to become great. They became great because of the amount of love they had for what they did. Bill Gates didn’t chase money, he worked hard and dedicated his time and attention (love) towards technology and everything he could do to develop it. He just happens to be a great player in his game, thats why his score is so high. $53 Billion as of 2007.

Here is what you can do if you need money.

1. Find out what you love to do most.

2. Create a business that you can make a profit from doing the thing you love most.

3. Be sure that your product or service brings increase into others lives.

4. Continue to love and grow in what you love doing, and do it with your whole heart.

5. If successfully done correctly, you will profit from your genius actions!
